Mailbox Monday! 1/19/09

The banks and post office are closed today in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, but that didn’t stop me from making a Mailbox Monday video – only took me three attempts!

Today is also my Grandma Sutter’s birthday. She doesn’t have a computer, so won’t hear my shout-out to her. Luckily all of my free address labels come in handy when I send her a birthday card via snail mail.

I not only had a great time in Vegas for Affiliate Summit last week, but I also scored some great freebies included a uber-soft stuffed bear from ShareASale (my prom pic made the invitation of their 80’s party) and tons of tshirts to wear for my Free Shirt Friday column, including an awesome bowling shirt from BowlingShirt.com!

Also, while in Vegas, I got to tour the Zappos.com headquarters!  Being the President of Shoeaholics Anonymous, this was a real treat! I came away with an “I am royalty at Zappos” crown and a book that Tony, the CEO recommends: Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap… and Others Don’t by Jim Collins (any relation to Shawn Collins?) and a fun time to remember.

Trivia of the day: Do you know what a Brannok Device is?  Upon googling for the exact definition of this shoe size measuring instrument, I noticed that Zappos spelled the name wrong on the inside of their crowns – It should be BrannoCk Device!

Happy Labor Day!

I had not heard of the White Rabbit theory until my friend told me this morning.  It is supposedly good luck to repeat (like a mantra) the phrase White Rabbit, White Rabbit, White Rabbit as your first words on the first day of the month.  (Better than Dead Rabbit, eh?) Maybe I should have learned of this yesterday, as I think my first words this morning were “then eat breakfast” in response to my daughter that was complaining she was hungry. She is always hungry I swear.

And since it’s the first day of the month, it’s time to weed out my coupon box (I use the deluxe coupon file). With no school today (and no mail, thus no Mailbox Monday video), my kids are bored. I put one of my daughters to work cutting coupons and taking out expired coupons.  Don’t throw away your expired coupons – donate them to overseas military families as my friend Karen details here.  Thanks for the info, Karen!

A fellow SB’er emailed me that K-Mart plans to double coupons up to and including $2 off from September 4th – 8th! Limit four of the same coupon. Limit 75 coupons per person per day. No internet coupons.  I live an hour away from the nearest KMart, so plan to call first to make sure they are participating before driving that far.
