Weathering the Nebraska Weather

Posted by kim on March 6, 2010

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of AccuWeather.
All opinions are 100% mine.

Every weekday morning, we go through the same routine at our house. After I wake up the girls – how is it that on school days they don’t want to get out of bed, but on weekends like today, they are up at the crack of dawn and won’t let me sleep in? Anyway – as they start to rustle around, I usually grab some breakfast (Kellogg’s Frosted Cherry Pop-tarts or toast with butter and strawberry jelly with a glass of milk is my fave) and go to check my email.

Then my youngest daughter will come into my office and ask what the day’s weather is going to be like so she knows how to dress accordingly.  She also plops down her glasses on my desk for me to clean as well.  I can pull up the weather forecast on my computer online at websites such as AccuWeather that display the current weather conditions.

For instance, it’s 36 degrees and cloudy at the moment I am writing this, but later today we may see occasional rain and drizzle (yuck) with a high of 44 degrees.  Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low of 26 degrees. We are getting so sick of this icky weather here in Nebraska.  The kids have missed too many snow days already that they have tacked on extra days at the end of the school year to make up for them already!

Okay enough complaining about the weather, I have shopping deals to find, and it’s supposed to be sunny and warmer tomorrow!

Tax Free Weekend Shopping

Posted by kim on August 7, 2009

Tax Free ShoppingMany states offer a “tax free” weekend (or just a day or two) to help people save money on “back to school” shopping.  My state of Nebraska doesn’t offer such (didn’t pass in legislature), but I live close to Iowa which is having their tax free weekend going on right now!  Unfortunately I will not be able to take advantage of it since I am flying out to New York City earlier in the morning.

But I thought I’d compile a list of the states that are participating on what days along with what purchases will be tax free on those days…

Alabama – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Books, Clothing, Computers, School Supplies)

Connecticut - August 15 – 22, 2009 (Clothing, Shoes)

Georgia – was July 30 – August 2, 2009

Iowa – August 7 – 8, 2009 (Clothing, Shoes)

Louisiana – August 7 – 8, 2009 (anything under $2,500)

Mississippi - was July 31 – August 1, 2009

Missouri – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Clothing, Computers, School Supplies)

New Mexico – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Clothing, Computers, School Supplies)

North Carolina – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Clothing, Computer, School Supplies, Sports & Recreation Equipment)

Oklahoma – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Clothing, Shoes)

South Carolina – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Clothing, Computers, School Supplies)

Tennessee – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Clothing, Computers, School Supplies)

Texas – August 21 – 23, 2009 (Backpacks, Clothing, Shoes)

Vermont – August 22, 2009 (Items under $2,000 excluding Food)

Virginia – August 7 – 9, 2009 (Clothing, School Supplies)

West Virginia – September 1 – November 30, 2009 (Energy Star Products under $5,000)

If I am missing any or the details are incorrect, please let me know!

Also, remember if you are shopping online, and the online store does not have a business location in your state, then you do not have to pay sales tax either!  That is one of the few advantages of living in Nebraska!

“See” you all next week!
