Funny Vacation Rental Commercial

Posted by kim on February 5, 2010

When I was in high school, I wanted to write and produce television commercials for my career, and I originally went to college for commercial art.  Well, things (er, babies) happen and my life took a detour.

But I still love watching commercials.  And come this Superbowl Sunday, I’ll be more interested in the advertisements than the actual football game.  So you can imagine how excited I was when I was asked to review this vacation rental commercial.

This video was embedded using the YouTuber plugin by Roy Tanck. Adobe Flash Player is required to view the video.

This commercial from Vacation Rental.org caught my eye, but I can’t say that the “Unitard” made me laugh, so I probably wouldn’t dub it “funny” in my opinion. But it does get the point across that staying in a vacation rental does look more appealing than staying in a hotel while traveling.

Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe

Posted by kim on January 27, 2010

My cousin makes her own laundry detergent as she wrote about on the Star Tribune today. Her intention is to be more green, but after reading it, I’m thinking I will try to make some as well, but more so to save money. Here’s the concoction:

Homemade Laundry Detergent Recipe

Ingredients:
1 cup Borax (I already have Borax as I tried that as one of my remedies for a washed-out cellphone; doesn’t work, try rice instead)

1 cup Arm & Hammer Washing Soda (not the same as baking soda)

1 regular-size bar of soap with no added moisturizer (she suggests Fels-Naptha Soap) grated.

# This item: Arm & Hammer Super Wash Soda, Detergent Booster 55 oz (1559 g) Church & Dwight In Stock. Sold by The Candy Company and ships from Amazon Fulfillment. Eligible for FREE Super Saver Shipping on orders over $25. Details # Dial Corp. 04303 Fels-Naptha Laundry Bar Soap by DIAL CORPORATION In stock. Processing takes an additional 3 to 4 days for orders from this seller. Ships from and sold by Denny And Kathy's Superstore. Free shipping. # Dial #00368 76OZ 20 Mule Team Borax DIAL CORPORATION

Directions:
Mix ingredients together with a food processor (would a blender work?) to fine grind everything up. Use 2 Tablespoons per load of laundry. Sounds easy enough that even I could do it!

Anyone tried this?  Or have different laundry soap recipes to share?
