Rambling About Baby Names

Posted by kim on January 21, 2006

My cousin is expecting a baby in a couple of weeks, so has been throwing around baby names at me. She says she doesn’t know the sex, but I’m thinking she does and is keeping it a secret (that’s what I did with my youngest).

With my first child, I was hoping for a girl and was going to call her “Mehrin” (pronounced Mare-In), but I gave birth to my bouncing baby boy, Taylor.

Then with the twins, I was hoping for a boy/girl combo, but learned early it was to be 2 girls. I always idolized a track star named Mallory, so planned on “Mallory” and “Meryn” (I changed the spelling, but pronounced it the same “Mare-In”). Well, since the twins were premature, I was put out for an emergency C-Section. The doctor suggested to my husband that he should name them right away and get them baptized as they didn’t think they’d live through the night. Of course, he couldn’t remember the names I wanted, but remembered they both started with “M”. Men! So, I got “Mallory” and “Macy”, who lived through the night and will be 12 this week!

Then God decided to bless us with yet another baby, and I was hoping for a boy to round out the boy/girl ratio. But the amniocentesis showed otherwise! So, now I thought I was finally going to get a “Maryn” (notice I changed the spelling yet again, as all my other kids have an “A” as they second letter of their name, and all their names contain a “Y”). But husband (now-Ex) was insistant on “Tatum”. We thought about compromising with “Taryn”, but neither of us cared for that. So, look who won – we have “Tatym” (I did change the spelling to accomodate).

So now, I suggested to my cousin to use “Maryn”, but I seriously think she is going to have a boy. And even if I do get re-married, I think my baby-bearing days are over to have a Maryn of my own. Four is too many to handle now! I’m just glad they are out of the bottles and diaper stages and are all in school!
