The Things We Take for Granted….

I’ve heard the phrase, “You don’t know what you have until it’s gone” but as of this morning I have a much deeper appreciation for ELECTRICITY!
I had big plans for “Cyber Monday” which was predicted to be the biggest online shopping day of the year, but the weather in Nebraska had different plans for me! We had a huge blizzard / ice storm and the power went out for over 30 hours.
The first few hours I thought my biggest problem was keeping the kids entertained as they were oh, so bored. We played board games and put puzzles together. Our next problem was food! Almost all of our food required cooking, so we ate cold cereal.
The real problems weren’t until it got dark out. I couldn’t find a flashlight, but didn’t have any batteries anyway. Luckily, we have candles. But the biggest problem turned out to be HEAT! We went to a friend’s house with a wood stove and a grill for supper, but we braved the cold to sleep.
This morning it was 42 degrees in here! We had just started packing to go to a hotel when the electricity came back on. I can’t wait for the hot water heater to heat up so I can shower!
I really feel sorry for the Hurricane victims. Although we endured the no electricity, etc, it was just short term, and we are thankful to still have our home.
